FILAMENT-Oss printing method: novel biodegradable and bioabsorbable composites for bone regeneration applications

FILAMENT-Oss is a bioactive material supported by a biodegradable polymer matrix for personalized bone regeneration which allows obtaining customized, osseoinductive and readsorbable scaffolds. The printing process of FILAMENT-Oss is carried out by a Fused Filament Fabrication process (FFF/FDM). As any other Additive Manufacturing technique, the FFF creates a physical 3D object from a digital model (usually a CAD representation) which is sliced in layers at consecutive height levels. The process requires of a thermoplastic material like polylactic acid (PLA), polycaprolactone (PCL), or acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), FILAMENT-Oss fulfill this requirement combining a thermoplastic biodegradable matrix and a bioactive ceramic or metallic phase.
